Niki Sideris Annual Walk-a-thon

On Saturday, May 12th we braved the rainy weather and walked for a very worthy cause… the Greek Division of the Ronald McDonald House. Mrs. Tzallas, Mrs. Kakivelis, Mrs. Perdik, Mrs. Chatzidakis and a few young Spyropoulites participated in the Niki Sideris Annual Walk-a-thon in Manhattan. The money raised by the PTA during the Christmas Ornament Drive was donated to the Ronald McDonald House. Thanks to your generosity, we were able to donate $1,600 to this very worthy cause!

Victorious Again!

Our Hawks have done it again!!! The girls defeated Fantis on their Brooklyn court with a final score of 59-23. Elleni Alfonso, an eighth grader, was the game’s high scorer. She put up 32 of the team’s 59 points. Go Hawks!

Celebrating Earth Day

The students at the William Spyropoulos School have been celebrating Earth Day all month long! Earlier this month, the Junior and Senior Student Councils began a plastic water bottle recycling program, and grades 3-8 voted and decided to donate all of the money collected to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Spring was in the air on Monday, April 23rd, as every student celebrated Earth Day by wearing green. Every class participated in activities focusing on Mother Earth. The seventh graders, for example, helped Mrs. Prokos’ kindergarten class decorate cardboard boxes which will be reused for storage or other purposes. The first graders wore floral wreaths as they went on a nature walk, and the fifth graders decorated their classrooms with beautiful posters reminding us all to “LOVE OUR EARTH.” The fourth graders began their tadpole study, and Mrs. Orfanidis’ class decided to make a difference by collecting change to help save the rainforests. And, in Computers, Eleana Maragopoulos and Sophia Skenderis presented a PowerPoint on the dangers of pollution. It was truly fun celebrating Earth Day at our school. Please remember to REDUCE, REUSE, and RECYCLE!
